The answer
WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or website chat? Choose based on where customers discover your business and what they need to do next. The three channels play different roles, and adding all three does not automatically create a better customer experience.
The Digital 2026 Egypt report estimates 98.2 million internet users and 51.6 million active social media user identities in October 2025. Digital 2025 Egypt estimated Messenger ad reach at 35.4 million in early 2025. These are not counts of potential buyers for your company.
Quick comparison
WhatsApp suits conversations that may continue over time, including quotes, bookings, updates and permitted follow-ups. Messenger can be the easiest entry point for people discovering you through Facebook. Website chat helps visitors who are already evaluating your offer on a product, service or pricing page.
| Customer situation | Messenger | Website chat | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discovers you on Facebook | Useful | Natural first step | Requires site visit |
| Reading your service page | Requires app switch | Requires app switch | Natural first step |
| Needs later follow-up | Often useful within policy | Possible within policy | Depends on identity |
| Needs current page context | Limited by default | Limited by default | Potentially strong |
| Needs conversation history | Often straightforward | Often straightforward | Depends on setup |
These are practical tendencies, not absolute performance ratings.
WhatsApp: continuity is the advantage
WhatsApp is useful for appointment confirmation, discussing a quotation, continuing a high-consideration purchase, order updates and conversations that began through advertising. Customers can often return to an existing thread.
However, follow-up messages depend on platform rules, message type and customer consent. Do not assume unrestricted business-initiated messaging. Check the WhatsApp pricing guide and live platform terms before launching. A WhatsApp account alone cannot solve missing product knowledge or unclear team responsibility.
Messenger: keep the Facebook journey simple
DataReportal reported potential Messenger ad reach of 35.4 million people in Egypt in early 2025, equivalent to 36.8% of the internet user base then. This is potential advertising reach, not monthly active users or real leads.
If Facebook posts, page visits, comments and click-to-message campaigns bring relevant inquiries, Messenger may be a natural place to start. Do not assume a Messenger inquiry is less valuable than a WhatsApp inquiry. Compare qualified leads and actual outcomes.
Website chat: answer questions at the evaluation stage
A visitor on a pricing page may have a more specific question than someone responding "details?" to a broad advertisement. Website chat can preserve the context of the page they were reading when the analytics and consent setup supports it.
Test it when your site receives relevant organic or paid traffic, visitors need explanations before buying, or service pages generate repeated questions. But a widget is not useful if the visitor loses the conversation on closing the page or has to repeat everything to a team member.
The real problem: three disconnected inboxes
A business may pay to generate conversations and still lose opportunities when no one owns the next step. Before adding another channel, define who responds, when to escalate, how follow-up works and what outcome to record.
Treat each channel as an entry point, not a separate customer identity. Record seven fields: source, intent, conversation stage, summary, next action, human owner where needed and outcome. Then ask which channel produces useful business results rather than the most messages.
Measure outcomes instead of message volume
Use the same definitions and reporting period across channels:
- Cost per started conversation: attributable marketing spend divided by new conversations.
- Qualification rate: qualified conversations divided by new conversations.
- Cost per qualified conversation: marketing spend divided by qualified conversations.
- Next-step rate: qualified conversations reaching a defined action divided by all qualified conversations.
- Booking or purchase rate: recorded outcomes divided by qualified conversations.
- Contribution per conversation: attributable gross profit after relevant variable costs divided by conversations assessed.
Revenue is not profit. If a sale cannot be attributed reliably, say so rather than crediting the channel or software automatically.
Hypothetical example
Suppose EGP 5,000 produces 250 Messenger conversations, while another EGP 5,000 produces 125 WhatsApp conversations. That is EGP 20 versus EGP 40 per conversation.
Now suppose 25 Messenger conversations qualify and 50 WhatsApp conversations qualify. The cost per qualified conversation becomes EGP 200 for Messenger and EGP 100 for WhatsApp. The initially more expensive channel performs better on this particular metric. You still need to assess purchases, margin and follow-up costs.

Where Mr. AI fits
Current Mr. AI product information confirms WhatsApp, Messenger and website chat, replies based on company knowledge, automated follow-up and next-step tracking, conversation summaries, AI insight reports and communication analytics.
The goal is not three independent bots. It is a coordinated workflow where people retain control of decisions and complex cases. AI should not invent prices or guarantee results. Use the AI agent testing checklist before launch.
Do you need all three?
If most leads arrive through Facebook, start by organizing Messenger. If sales already run mainly on WhatsApp, improve knowledge, follow-up and ownership there first. If the website brings high-intent visitors, test website chat on service pages. If all three are already active, prioritize consistent operations and measurement rather than adding another channel.
Eight questions before adding a channel
- How many relevant inquiries come from it?
- Do customers ask for it, or are we assuming?
- Who owns unanswered messages?
- Where is verified product knowledge kept?
- How is follow-up triggered and reviewed?
- When does a human take over?
- How will qualified leads and outcomes be measured?
- Will customers repeat their story when switching channels?
If the last six answers are unclear, another channel may simply create another inbox.
Start free with a 30-conversation audit
Review your latest 30 inquiries. Record channel, intent, qualification, next step and outcome. Compare qualified opportunities rather than raw message counts.
Then try the customer experience with Mr. AI. Its current FAQ says the trial needs no credit card. You can also book a demo to review your workflow.
Bottom line: Messenger often suits Facebook discovery, website chat serves people evaluating your offer, and WhatsApp supports ongoing conversations. The advantage comes from connecting source, conversation, qualification, next step and outcome.
