# How human takeover and AI resumption work in one conversation
## How do you prevent a human and the AI Employee from conflicting in the same conversation?

Treat human intervention as an explicit operating state. When a customer needs a person or the team replies manually, the team should check AI state and work from the human queue. After the exception or sensitive step is complete, AI can resume according to the Takeover configuration rather than because someone simply assumes the conversation is ready.

- Human intervention is part of the service design, not a failure.
- The team should understand conversation state before sending a reply.
- AI should resume only when the context is suitable for automation again.

## When a person should step in

- The customer explicitly asks for a person.
- An exception, complaint, or decision needs human authority.
- Information is not available and must be verified.
- Another automated reply could create conflict or misunderstanding.

## A safe handoff flow

1. Open the case from Customer Operations and read the context.
2. Check the AI state before replying manually.
3. Complete the human reply or operational action.
4. Keep AI paused while the case still needs human ownership.
5. Resume AI when the exception is complete and the context is suitable again.

> **Resumption depends on configuration**
> Pause duration or persistent manual mode determines how AI returns. Do not assume one duration is right for every business.
