# Connect an AI assistant
Connection settings use the same Mr.AI server connection state as the Build & Manage with AI Hub. There is no separate Settings-only connection state.

## Before connecting

- Connecting is optional; use the manual workflow if you do not want to connect an external assistant.
- Availability can depend on your workspace, rollout controls, and the current capabilities of the assistant host.
- Only the areas Mr.AI exposes to your workspace can be used through the connected assistant.

## Connect ChatGPT

1. Open AI Settings or Build & Manage with AI and choose Connect AI Assistant.
2. Use the current ChatGPT custom MCP app / Developer Mode flow available to your eligible account or workspace.
3. Enter exactly https://access.mrailabs.com/mcp as the Mr.AI MCP endpoint.
4. Choose OAuth when prompted, complete Mr.AI authorization, then run or finish Scan Tools.
5. Return to Mr.AI and confirm that the connection is reported as connected by the server before relying on it.

## Connect Claude

1. Open the current Claude Connectors settings and add a custom remote connector.
2. Enter exactly https://access.mrailabs.com/mcp as the connector URL.
3. Complete Mr.AI OAuth authorization and enable only the tools you need for the current task.
4. Review Claude tool approval prompts carefully.
5. Return to Mr.AI and confirm the server-reported connected state.

> **Trust the Mr.AI connection state**
> A successful generic MCP test, a stale connector entry, or a host-side success screen is not enough. Treat the connection as active only when Mr.AI confirms the server state.

## Permissions and capability limits

- Mr.AI decides which tools and areas are available for the workspace.
- A host name does not widen permissions.
- Limited capability is not a failure; use the manual workflow for an area that is not exposed to the connected assistant.
